Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Supervisor

Are you looking to deepen your work with couples?

Couples counseling is both difficult and rewarding. You should not have to learn it alone. Having a mentor, someone by your side who supports you as you grow and deepen your understanding of the model is essential in learning EFT. My goal is to help you grow your understanding of Emotionally Focused Therapy, and support you as you learn the specific skills to be an effective couples and individual therapist. I will guide you through those moments of anxiety, discouragement, and not knowing what to do next with your most challenging clients.

I am a Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor, approved by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (www.ICEEFT.com). All your hours with me will count toward EFT Certification.

 Supervision/Consultation Options

Individual EFT Supervision. I offer individual in-person and online supervision. For those of you who are technophobes, I assure you this is easy to do. We can walk through the steps for set-up together prior to our first session.

Group Supervision. I regularly offer online and in-person supervision groups. Small group supervision offers a safe, fun, cost-effective way to grow your skills.

The benefits of participating in one of my ongoing EFT Supervision/Consultation groups include:

  • Learn and practice the EFT model, develop your interventions and strategies.
  • Case consultation – get practical help with your most challenging couples.
  • DVD review and role play to grow your EFT skills and confidence.
  • A safe, supportive space to address self of the therapist issues.
  • Share and celebrate your growth, development and successes.
  • Connect with other EFT therapists to create a supportive network of colleagues.

Live EFT Supervision. You can have a “bug-in-the-ear” real time experience as you do your session. It will be like having a supportive coach right beside you. To do this, you will need a webcam, good internet speed, a Zoom account, phone connection and an earpiece for your phone. In my experience this is the fastest, most dynamic way to learn EFT. By doing real time supervision, you gain an in-the-moment EXPERIENCE of how to work with emotions and accomplish EFT change events.

Clinical Supervision- Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Approved Supervisor

Independent licensure to be a therapist in the State of Arizona requires ongoing clinical supervision after your master’s degree is earned, in a process regulated by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. (Consult “Rules and Laws” at www.azbbhe.us). With my Arizona licensure in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), plus the requisite Board-approved training in supervision, I assist Arizona LAMFT’s and LAC’s who seek to move from an Associate level to independent licensure. In this process, I provide you the benefits of my extensive work experience in community mental health and private practice (See Meet Douglas) plus a deep knowledge of, and respect for the rules governing our field.

Extra Benefit. One possibility for associate-level therapists who are also learning Emotionally Focused Therapy, is that you might participate in one of the EFT supervision groups that I co-facilitate with Sandy Jardine, Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Supervisor. (See Meet Sandy) You can earn group supervision hours that could potentially apply both to  EFT certification and to independent licensure.

Special Board requirements. In special cases that the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners directs, I can be of assistance to independently licensed master’s level therapists who the Board has required to undergo a period of remedial supervision. While such experiences are typically not welcomed by therapists, they often can lead to a respectful collaboration and significant enhancements of professional skill.

Sensitivity and Support. Whatever the level of supervision that may be desired or required, I work hard to be sensitive to the needs of each supervisee, helping you learn and grow. My goal is to make the supervision process both instructive and supportive, bringing you to the highest possible skill as a therapist and to competence in managing the rules, regulations, and ethical principles that govern our profession.
